Mother
Danced
Mother
danced
between
coffee table and easy chair,
through
blades of sunlight
that
cut the air;
then
caught my open
mouth
and eyes,
and
laughing, plucked me
from
my wonder and surprise
and
into her embrace.
We
danced in circles,
she
and I,
this
dance a lesson
cleverly
disguised:
life
is spinning, laughter, joy,
where
towards the end I'll fall
once
more a little boy
remembering
mother's face.
Mother
danced,
and
now I dance
in
small and smaller circles.
